The Truth About Potty Trianing

The Truth is it Takes a While...

Here are the tips I've learned in potty training...

1. Watch for the pee face and the poo face and take them to the potty...
This is so they know where to go and how to use the potty.. the first few times it will not be easy, but keep taking them when we see the signs...

2. Don't ever get upset, (it does happen) but, they are learning! It is a new concept to them...
3. It doesn't happen over night. Don't set a timer... Generally they will need to go potty 20 mins after drinking... but mine would go pee in the potty and 2 mins later pee on the floor...

4. Take them potty as soon as they wake up, in the morning, and after naps. Make it a habit...

5. It takes a long time to master it took us months. He turned 2 in July and it is the end of September and he finally has the concept down...

6. Encourage them... Shout " YEAH YOU DID IT!!!"  He loved that! Repeating "YEAH I DID IT!!!"

7. The past month he kept stripping and peeing on the floor... Finally I gave in and watched for the signs... Where this didn't happen everyday in the past 3 months (but the last while it did) but on the days it did I would redirect him to the potty, even after he peed on the floor...

8. Tip for the pooping part. Grunt with them, so they know that on the potty is where we can grunt and poo...

9. The past few weeks he refused to ware pants, and when wearing them he would automatically pee... So we were bare bum for a couple of weeks, at home of course...

10. Where there accidents??? Yes but not as bad as changing a messy diaper! Or the horrible time I had with my 2nd child potty training..He was  5 yrs old when he finally got it... He literally did not care! He would use the potty when he wanted or just poop himself. HE knew how to use it, but he didn't care...

11. Communication is the key... pull them aside tell them you Love them! Look them in the eyes and say we use the potty to go pee or poo "OK", have them say "OK"

12. After we had the Ok it was kinda like Magic... He comes to me and says "Pee" and that means he has to go, sometimes hitting me to get my attention which I am totally ok with... This past week has been amazing, we finally figured it out! And I finally can put the pants on and they stay dry!!!

13. Every Child is different and it isn't a one day thing, but keep trying, don't give up and try to do everything with Love and patients! <3

Take care Everyone and I hope these tips help!
